Is that the death god? A grim reaper? A vampire? Nope! It's the Night Stalker! Okay, bad DotA 2 reference aside, there's something insanely flamboyant yet attractive about the Endless Waltz mobile suit designs.
They're not practical, but hey, who the hell cares as long as it looks good. Even in the movie, the Gundams were all exhausted and useless, after taking on waves and waves of enemy mobile suits. I bet the normally pitiful Flag from Gundam 00 could do a better job but it sure won't look as good as the EW Gundams.
And the Deathsyche is no exception. Even the name alone is fear inspiring. Don't forget to credit Bandai once you adopt Deathscythe for your band name.
"Pain... Agony.... My hatred burns through the cavernous deeps. The world heaves with my torment. Its wretched kingdoms quake beneath my rage... But at last... The whole of Earth will break... ...And all will burn beneath the shadow of my wings..."
Okay, okay, that's Deathwing [From WoW] and not Deathscythe. But I think it fits with the whole hellish concept.
Oversized vampiric wings, the scythe of a shinigami and blacker than the blackest coffee color scheme. These are the recipe for a perfect match made in hell. Now that I think of it, I don't even know if it has any range weapons apart from the head vulcans. But no matter, it's melee fighting abilities is so good that it can be compared to a Level 25 Phantom Assassin with 6 Butterfly.
As I have previously covered in my previous Heavy Hell Custom [Oops, Heavyarms], you cannot expect a lot out of this model kit in terms of details, articulation or building potential. What you can expect though, is that with some slight touch up, it can look pretty decent and passable.
And that is exactly what is wrong with the Wing HG line. Because the designs are so good, that it makes such a crappy line become decent. Now imagine if we get HGUC remakes of these kits. They'll no doubt be some of the hot selling stuff but I'm not on Bandai marketing team, so I'll stop here.
On the kit itself, the scythe beams are actually yellow, thus I painted it green to mimic the boxart effect. I wish I could have done a better job on it but it sure beats the default yellow. Add some red stripes on the head vent fins and it works like a charm.
Due to the hands' range movement, I felt that the scythe is a bit wasted. I mean it can't execute really nice swinging motions and trying to hold the hilt in two hands takes a lot of work and won't look natural.
Unlike the H-Arms which scored a 4.5, this Deathsycthe earns itself 5.5/10 [A pass nonetheless]. This is because it has less colors compared to H-Arms and thus, is a little more accurate and those wings and scythe are pretty good gimmicks. But what problems plaguing the H-Arms, I stress are evident in this kit also.
PS: The wings are not exactly foldable, so you have to adjust the position by plucking it in and out.
